Massage & Spa treatments have enormous health benefits so it’s important that you get the most out of each treatment.

Here are some tips on how to ensure your experience is as beneficial as possible.

Choosing a therapist – It’s  very important to find a therapist that is right for you.  A recommendation is always a good way to find a therapist.  If you don’t have a recommendation there are some things to consider when looking for a therapist:

  • Qualifications & experience.
  • Are they a member of a  professional society, for example ATMS – Australian Traditional Medicine Society?
  • Location – is it convenient for you, is it a peaceful environment?
  • Choose someone you feel comfortable talking to & that you feel is listening to you. Your appointment – It is important not to be late to your appointment.  Arrive a few minutes early so you’re not feeling rushed or stressed.  Being late may reduce your treatment time as other clients have booked in after you.

Don’t drink alcohol  or eat a large meal before your appointment. Have a small meal/snack and allow some time for it to digest.

Before you begin your treatment – Your therapist will ask you to fill in a form detailing your medical history and any current health concerns, both physically & emotionally.  It will also include your reason for having a treatment, what you would most like to gain from your treatment & what areas you would like to focus on.  If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment ask your therapist.

During your treatment – Relax!!!  It is a great idea to concentrate on  your breathing.  This will help to  relax your mind & body.  As thoughts enter your mind, bring your focus back to your breath, letting your thoughts go.

Your comfort is your therapists’ number 1 priority so if you need anything let them know….temperature, music volume, massage pressure.  if there is anything that doesn’t feel right let your therapist know.

After your treatment – When your treatment is over take some nice deep breathes, get up very slowly, sit and relax.

Drink lots of water after your treatment to rehydrate & flush out any toxins released.

Rebooking – Massage & spa treatments can have cumulative benefit.   Regular treatments can be very beneficial to your overall wellbeing.  Everyone is different, some of us need treatments more often than others.  Your therapist will be able to advise you on a time frame for your next and subsequent appointments.
